• Service companies, consultancies, and food companies are the ones that best enable employees to reconcile work and family life.
• On June 24, the Alares Foundation will present the 9th Alares National Awards for Work-Life, Family, and Personal Life Reconciliation and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Flexible working hours and support services for employees and their families reduce workplace absenteeism in Spanish companies by up to 40%, according to a study conducted by the Alares Foundation. The most effective measures include support services for families, which help reduce absenteeism by around 30%; flexible working hours, by around 25%; leave to attend meetings at schools, by 20%; accompanying family members with cancer, by 14%; and healthy habits, by 10%.
The data come from a study conducted by the Alares Foundation among the nearly 1,500 companies that have entered the Alares National Awards for Work-Life, Family, and Personal Life Reconciliation and Corporate Social Responsibility since 2007, in their respective categories. The awards will hold their ninth edition in Madrid on June 24, under the honorary patronage of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain.
The most “family-friendly” sectors
The study highlights that concern about facilitating the reconciliation of family, work, and personal life is growing among all companies, and has also increased significantly among small and medium-sized enterprises. Most sectors of the Spanish economy have been represented in these awards, which have shown that sectors that traditionally did not apply work-life reconciliation measures have gradually incorporated them into their operations.
Throughout all these years, the services sector has been the most represented, accounting for 22.50% of all companies; followed by consulting, at 15%; the food industry, at 13.17%; ICT, at 9%; training and education, at 8.17%; insurance, at 6%; pharmaceuticals, at 4.67%; logistics, at 4.50%; publishing, at 3.17%; automotive and financial institutions, at 3%; tourism, at 2.83%; construction, at 2.50%; security, at 1.50%; and energy, at 1%.
