People’s quality of life and business competitiveness go hand in hand

Javier Benavente Barrón Nowadays, having a competitive company while not caring about the people who work in it, or about ensuring that the environment in which we operate has a better quality of life, is condemning that company to failure. This will not make any company competitive. In reality, when society’s quality of life is better, consumption increases and, therefore, our companies achieve better results. For employees to be involved, for our company to stand out from the rest and consequently be more competitive, it is vital to commit to that quality of life. Competitiveness is a very broad concept that includes market positioning. To ensure that the market recognizes us as the best, we have to do everything better than everyone else. This is where human talent comes into play—the fundamental element that differentiates some companies from others. Also involved in this struggle to be leaders and competitive is the innovation companies pursue to stay at the forefront. Human teams are a very important factor: diverse teams that reflect social reality. Teams made up of people with disabilities, older people, young people, and people from different cultures and backgrounds… who are capable of understanding the world in which they operate, especially when companies want to compete and expand internationally. All of this is directly connected to work-life balance. It is very difficult to have the best talent in our organizations if we are unable to understand the needs of the people who work with us and respond to them. Another increasingly important issue for positioning any company’s image in the consumer’s mind is Corporate Social Responsibility. At the organizational level, we need to find ways to connect our business with the social needs of the surrounding environment and determine how, as a company, we can do more to improve the social environment in which we operate. When companies contribute in this way, they build their brand and establish a position in the mind of the end consumer. Javier Benavente spoke about competitiveness, productivity, work-life balance, talent retention, and other related issues in an interview for the Capital program on Radio Intereconomía.
