This report, prepared by the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities (CERMI), includes complaints about violations of the rights of people with disabilities in Spain.
For this reason, the organization has decided to submit this document, together with another report prepared in 2008, to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the body responsible for monitoring compliance by States parties with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
CERMI regrets that, although Spain was one of the countries to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, situations of discrimination continue to occur because of a lack of accessibility in environments and services or the absence of legal mechanisms that can effectively and rapidly restore violated rights.
However, not everything in this report is negative, as it also highlights the progress and good practices achieved in the area of disability over the past year.
