• The 8th edition of the Alares National Awards for Work-Life, Family and Personal Reconciliation and Corporate Social Responsibility highlights companies’ progress in these areas.

Once again, the auditorium of CaixaForum Madrid hosted the 8th Gala Awards Ceremony for the Alares National Awards for Work-Life, Family and Personal Reconciliation and Corporate Social Responsibility. Mr. Javier Benavente Barrón, President of Fundación Alares, opened the event by thanking all attendees for their commitment to social responsibility—understood from two perspectives: work in the area of occupational health within the disability community in our country, and the importance of reconciliation. He also emphasized that “Reconciliation, in addition to being a necessary commitment, is an opportunity. An opportunity to make a difference and position oneself ahead of other companies.”
The opening speech was delivered by Mr. José Folgado, President of Red Eléctrica, who stressed “that companies need leadership based on honesty, innovation, and strategic vision. However, for him, it is not only a matter of implementing systems supported by this leadership and advanced technology within the company; today, innovation and Social Responsibility are also necessary, and Social Responsibility must form part of the company’s strategic management.”
Ms. Mar Aguilera, in her capacity as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Alares, read the jury’s decision, highlighting the quality and professionalism of the 365 applications submitted for these awards, resulting in a first-rate list of winners.
After the event was opened, the awards ceremony began. Mr. Miguel Ángel García Martín, Director General of Self-Employment, the Social Economy and Corporate Social Responsibility, Ministry of Employment and Social Security, was the first to announce and present the awards for the most innovative practices in the business category. The event also featured remarks by Mr. Juan Pablo Lázaro Montero, who placed particular emphasis on the fact that “Social Responsibility applied to companies improves the bottom line of any organization,” and by Ms. Carmen Plaza, Director of Equal Opportunities.
As the Gala progressed, the winners in the remaining categories were announced. The awards ceremony featured prominent figures from the business world, including Mr. Juan Pablo Lázaro Montero, Mr. Juan José Jiménez, Ms. Ma Eugenia Girón Dávila, Mr. Juan José Guemes, Mr. José Manuel Morán, Mr. Bruno Bobone, and Ms. Nuria Chinchilla.
Mr. Roberto Leal, co-presenter of Espejo Público, which received an award in its category, delivered a few words on behalf of all the winners, noting that “Behind every company there are people, and reconciliation must therefore be understood from that perspective, since a happy employee benefits both the company and themselves.”
The commitment
The 8th edition of the Alares National Awards for Work-Life, Family and Personal Reconciliation and Corporate Social Responsibility once again exceeded the expectations set by previous years. These awards, held under the Honorary Presidency of H.M. Queen Sofía, once again highlight the involvement of companies, institutions, civil society, executives, media outlets, audiovisual programs, innovation and research projects, universities, business schools, and professors and researchers in the fields of Reconciliation and Social Responsibility.
The CaixaForum venue in Madrid was chosen to host the more than 500 guests who attended the 2014 Gala Awards Ceremony for the Alares National Awards, where human capital and Social Responsibility were, naturally, the main protagonists. The quality and creativity of the projects are proof of this, creating a first-rate list of winners united by business competitiveness and sustainability. Without a doubt, Fundación Alares has once again demonstrated that, after eight editions, these awards have become a benchmark in the social, economic, and cultural spheres of our country.
Ana García Lozano, journalist and television presenter, expertly hosted the gala, which concluded with words of thanks from Mr. Javier Benavente and a closing speech by Ms. Nuria Chinchilla, Trustee of Fundación Alares.
