Javier Benavente Barrón, President of Alares, the Alares Foundation, and the Foundation for Diversity, received an award at the 2014 MDE Solidarity Awards in the category of “Man Who Supports Women the Most.”
The awards gala was held last Friday, October 17, in Madrid, as part of a charity dinner organized by the Women for Dialogue and Education Association.
After accepting the award, and very grateful for the recognition, he addressed the attendees, emphasizing first that he is only the sum of all the people working to support women. He also stated that women face difficult obstacles in achieving their ambition to live a dignified life in which their professional, personal, and family roles are perfectly integrated. In the words of Javier Benavente, achieving full integration and harmony requires embracing a new concept of success that includes freedom and flexibility in corporate cultures and social structures.
He concluded his speech by highlighting that women have made tremendous progress in entering the workforce, but that greater shared responsibility between men and women is still needed, along with women assuming stronger leadership roles in their respective organizations. In a world generally dominated by men, and given the current circumstances requiring urgent measures and changes for a new global reordering, women will play a fundamental role, helping to create better organizations and, ultimately, a better world.

In the other categories, Ms. Mª Teresa Fernández de la Vega, President of the Women for Africa Foundation and former Deputy Prime Minister, received the award in the category of “Women Who Change the World”; YO DONA magazine, in the category of “The Most Women-Friendly Media Outlet”; MAHOU-SAN MIGUEL GROUP, in the category of “The Company with a Feminine Perspective”; and the award for “The Institution Most Committed to Women” went to the ONCE FOUNDATION’S EQUALITY OBSERVATORY.
After the awards ceremony, the VIII International Charity Dinner was held, an event that included a raffle to raise funds for the various projects developed by Women for Dialogue and Education, aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable women over the age of 45.
