This is the title of the international conference being held today in Barcelona as part of the Spanish presidency of the European Union. During this event, attended by representatives of the governments of EU Member States, the Autonomous Communities, social and economic stakeholders, and employment experts, participants will address which jobs have the greatest future prospects in the coming years, as well as the skills workers will need to develop to perform them.
Attendees will discuss the specific steps that should be taken to advance toward a global strategy for qualifications and employment within the framework of the EU 2020 Employment Strategy, fostering the development of a more competitive, environmentally friendly, and efficient economy.
In line with this economic model based on competitiveness and added value, a significant proportion of new employment opportunities are expected to be related to jobs undergoing transformation and sectors that are currently emerging. This will require qualified people prepared for these new jobs, which is why identifying the systems needed to train these new workers is a priority for the EU.
So far, EU employment studies agree that by 2020 workers will have a higher level of qualifications across virtually the entire European territory. In addition, these studies show that the services, healthcare, and education sectors will generate the most employment.
