More than 60% of people with disabilities have had contracts lasting less than four months.
Twenty-one percent of those surveyed state that their time in the same job was less than six months, and only 15% say they remained employed for more than one year at the same company.
According to the Alares Disability and Employment Barometer by Fundación Alares, based on the ongoing analysis of the labor market for people with disabilities, the report captures the realities and employment needs of both people with disabilities and the companies that hire them.
Its main objective is to obtain statistical data on the employability and quality of employment of people with disabilities, both quantitatively and qualitatively. This analysis makes it possible to identify potential cause-and-effect relationships and thus implement improvement mechanisms that guarantee effective equal opportunities.
Sixty-four percent of those surveyed state that they have signed contracts lasting less than four months. These figures highlight the lack of employment stability among the people with disabilities surveyed—more than 600 people.
The key to achieving equality is workplace integration
The workplace integration of people with disabilities is vital to achieving equal opportunities in society, which leads us to examine more closely the problem causing this imbalance. To this end, a new survey has been launched through the
Alares Disability and Employment Barometer, which is active at www.discaempleo.com, aimed in this case at companies, which will allow us to understand the causes contributing to this employment instability.
Recruiting people with disabilities requires strategic planning, ranging from understanding the different disabilities in order to eliminate stereotypes to competency-based selection, identifying recruitment sources to find the ideal candidate, adapting the position, and, in some cases, integrating the person into the work team. Managing this planning contributes to successful recruitment and, consequently, benefits both the company and the employee.
Fundación Alares helps companies promote the workplace inclusion of people with disabilities while also providing employment-specific training for this group. Hiring people with disabilities generates highly significant social benefits that help these individuals achieve independence, thereby enabling their full and effective participation in society, as established by the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
In this regard, Fundación Alares makes a very useful tool available to both companies and job seekers: Discaempleo.com, a meeting point for people with disabilities who want to enter the professional world and companies that support integrating these individuals into their workforce.
