Unemployment is rising among people with disabilities.

The current economic crisis is causing a large number of people with disabilities to be laid off. This phenomenon greatly hinders the integration of this group and undermines any policy promoting equal opportunities and rights.
According to Inem, in 2007, an average of 84,893 people with disabilities were seeking employment each month—that is, 2.7% of all job seekers. By the end of 2007, 164,281 employment contracts had been registered for people with disabilities. These figures show that more and more people with disabilities are taking to the streets to seek decent work that can help them integrate into society. Institutions are calling on employers to show greater sensitivity to the issue and reminding them that diversity is a true source of wealth. Even so, unemployment rates among people with disabilities are far above those of the general population and continue to rise.
