December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities

In 1992, this day was proclaimed for the first time, following a period dedicated by the United Nations to reflecting on and raising awareness of the problems faced by this group, which at the time was known as the "Decade of Disabled Persons" (1983–1992). Since then, the UN has proclaimed this day to promote activities in favor of the social and occupational integration of people with disabilities. On the occasion of today’s observance, focused this year on "Inclusive Millennium Development Goals: registering people with disabilities and their communities worldwide", numerous events are being held by various federations and organizations of people with disabilities: - The Federation of Organizations in Favor of People with Intellectual Disabilities (FEAPS) has sent a set of ten guidelines to various media outlets, summarizing, under the slogan "A matter of attitude, not aptitude", the basic guidelines for reporting on intellectual disabilities in the media. You can read the "Manifesto in Defense of Disability and Against the Crisis, Poverty, and Exclusivity" by clicking here At the Alares Foundation we want to join in this observance, since most of our work focuses on supporting people with disabilities, making significant efforts to promote equal opportunities, eliminate barriers, and create an accessible city for everyone, as well as carrying out daily activities to promote the social and occupational integration of every person with any type of disability.
