20% of people with disabilities feel discriminated against in their workplace

This is indicated by a study on the labor-market integration of groups at risk of social exclusion, in which more than 700 people with disabilities participated. However, although this figure is very negative, it is six points lower than in the previous study conducted in 2009. This indicates that companies’ attitudes are changing and that they are becoming more aware of the importance of integrating people with disabilities into the workforce. Access to the labor market is one of the main challenges faced by people with disabilities, who also frequently experience certain inequalities compared with other workers. Therefore, raising companies’ awareness is extremely important in order to prevent situations of this kind. So far this year, there has been a 9% increase in the hiring of people with disabilities compared with last year, according to data from the State Disability Observatory. In January, 4,608 hires were recorded, representing 8.5% of the total working-age population with disabilities. Furthermore, according to the same study, by autonomous region, the Valencian Community recorded 15.3% permanent contracts for people with disabilities in January, followed by Catalonia with 14.4% and Madrid with 14.1%.
