Last Thursday in Barcelona, Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno, president of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities, and the Minister of Labour and Immigration, Celestino Corbacho, met with the aim of having the CERMI representative request that disability be included in the European Union’s most important documents.
At this meeting, Pérez Bueno and CERMI Secretary General Alberto Durán gave Corbacho a document containing proposals to promote the labor inclusion and social protection of people with disabilities in all key European-level documents during Spain’s presidency of the EU. CERMI is calling for disability to be included in the documents that will establish policies in this area over the coming years, such as the EU 2020 Strategy, the European Employment Strategy, and the Social Agenda.
With this proposal, CERMI is calling for the adoption of a European Pact on Disability and for people with disabilities and aging to be given priority in the Social Agenda. They are also demanding that disability be addressed at high-level political meetings, such as the Presidency Conference and meetings of European ministers.
This meeting between the Minister of Labour and CERMI forms part of the action program of this institution and the European Disability Forum, aimed at influencing disability policy during Spain’s presidency of the European Union.
