The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) believes that it is necessary to create a European Disability Pact and include it in the EU 2020 strategy in the areas of employment, accessibility, gender, social dialogue, participation, and civil dialogue.
In this regard, the EESC plenary, with 152 votes in favor, approved a document entitled “People with disabilities: employment and accessibility in stages for people with disabilities in the EU. Post-2010 Lisbon Strategy.”
This European body calls for specific employment policies to promote the integration of people with disabilities, as well as awareness-raising measures to counteract the stereotypes that still exist about workers with disabilities. It also highlights the important role the media play in accepting diversity.
