The Diversity Charter: no to discrimination, yes to social integration

On July 7, the Diversity Charter will be celebrated in the European Commission’s Europa Room. It aims to improve and strengthen workplace coexistence among people from different cultures and backgrounds. Through this distinctly European initiative, the companies that sign the charter commit to complying with a series of basic principles, including:
  • Raise awareness: the principles of equal opportunities and respect for diversity must be included in the company’s values and communicated to employees.
  • Make progress toward building a diverse workforce: the company must promote the integration of people with diverse backgrounds (regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, beliefs, age, disability, etc.)
  • Promote inclusion: integration must be effective, avoiding any kind of discrimination (direct or indirect) in the workplace.
  • Take diversity into account in all people-management policies: diversity management should not be merely another human resources practice, but rather a cross-cutting factor underpinning all decisions made in this area.
