Congress calls for a disability committee in the European Parliament

Creating a disability committee in the European Parliament is what Congress is asking the Government to do, taking advantage of the fact that Spain currently holds the Presidency of the European Union. To this end, the Spanish Congress of Deputies has approved an institutional declaration, adding to the proposal by the European Disability Forum and the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities, which have also highlighted the importance of creating such a committee. According to the text drafted by the Disability Committee, the aim of this committee is to ensure the full exercise of all fundamental rights and freedoms by persons with disabilities, without any form of discrimination. In addition, the committee has approved a non-legislative proposal urging the Government to make it customary, during the rotating terms of the European presidency, to hold an informal meeting of the ministers responsible for disability matters, such as the one Zaragoza will host next May.
