A computer within everyone's reach

As we already know, new technologies are not accessible to everyone. Accessing a website or operating a computer is impossible for some people. Nevertheless, tools are gradually emerging to make these activities easier for people with disabilities. From now on, people with cerebral palsy will be able to use a computer mouse simply by moving their eye’s iris. The project is called Ediris and is funded by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce. The system consists of a video camera with infrared lighting and a control unit, through which users can operate reading and writing learning programs, the Windows environment, compose messages to send by email, access the Internet, play games, and more. At Alares, we believe these advances are truly important and necessary for a society that increasingly recognizes people with disabilities as active participants in everyday life.
