Catalan organizations’ strong commitment to Diversity Management

Six new companies have committed to the principles of the Diversity Charter for the first time, bringing the total number of signatories to more than 700. In addition, 16 companies have renewed their commitment. All of them did so at the public signing ceremony held as part of the event “A commitment to innovation through diversity management,” organized by Fundación Diversidad. Barcelona Activa hosted the event “A commitment to innovation through diversity management” on April 19, organized by Fundación Diversidad. In addition to several presentations by leading experts, 6 new companies signed the Diversity Charter and another 16 organizations renewed their commitment.
Mr. Lorenzo di Pietro, Executive Director of Entrepreneurship, Business and Innovation at Barcelona Activa, opened the event, making clear Barcelona Activa’s commitment to Fundación Diversidad. “We feel very strongly aligned because we defend the same values,” he noted. Next, Ms. Maravillas Rojo, former President of Barcelona Activa and former Head of Social Entrepreneurship at the Government of Catalonia, emphasized that “Talent changes contexts, and context in turn changes talent itself—a talent that is developed and learned.” For her, the main challenge lies in finding complementarity within this diversity of talent. She also highlighted that accepting and integrating diverse talents requires flexibility and a collaborative attitude. Mr. Santos Félix Farreras, an LGBT expert and member of the Charter’s advisory board, explained to attendees how the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community should have policies that support their circumstances and help normalize “everyday” situations such as marriages, maternity and paternity leave, etc. “The Diversity Management Index,” presented by Mar Aguilera, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, is the method used to validate the renewal of the Diversity Charter by 102 companies, 34 of them located in Catalonia. It has enabled an analysis of practices showing, among other findings, that 99% of Catalan companies communicate about diversity to their customers. Another positive finding is that 79% of companies in Catalonia evaluate their diversity policies. The study shows that more than 22,000 employees represented in the sample of 34 Catalan companies are aware of the Diversity Charter commitment. Likewise, based on this sample, 82% of the companies analyzed promote shared responsibility. The event also featured Ms. Laura Mollá Enguix, Lawyer and Labor Auditor, Partner of the Bonatti Network for Legal Compliance, who explained that compliance originated as an anti-fraud regulation but is currently aimed at ensuring that companies act ethically. “It is not only about complying with the law, but about proactively doing things properly,” she clarified. Ms. María Eugenia Girón Dávila, President of Fundación para la Diversidad, and Mr. Josep Vidal Fàbrega, Director General of Social Economy, the Third Sector, Cooperatives and Self-Employment at the Government of Catalonia, brought the event to a close.
