Spain: Europe’s leader in accessible voting for blind people

Spain provides blind people with the option of accessible voting in Braille, allowing them to exercise their right to vote without having to rely on another person’s assistance, as ONCE and its Foundation President Miguel Carballeda and ONCE Foundation Executive Vice President Alberto Durán said today. Carballeda also highlighted Spain’s leadership in Europe regarding the labeling of pharmaceutical products in Braille.
The issue of voting in Braille was addressed today in Brussels, where it was noted that, although similar initiatives exist in other countries among the 27, Spain is the only country where accessible voting is already a reality.
Likewise, during the presentation of the ‘Corporate Social Responsibility and Disability Guide,’ emphasis was placed on the importance of electronic voting and ensuring its full accessibility for people with disabilities.
In addition, with the aim of encouraging the group’s participation in the European elections, ONCE will issue five million coupons next May 9, as well as posters bearing the slogan “Nothing about people with disabilities without people with disabilities.”
