Businesswoman María Eugenia Girón has donated part of her wardrobe, including clothing from some of the most sought-after brands, to raise funds for the new entrepreneurs in the EmprendEX program. The online store www.itandvip.com will put the items on sale starting Wednesday the 26th, and the proceeds will go toward the EmprendEX project, which helps long-term unemployed people at risk of social exclusion set up their own businesses and become self-employed.
EmprendEX, the initiative launched by the Alares Foundation, enables the most disadvantaged unemployed people—those without financial resources or means of support, but with the right personal qualities and motivation—to receive comprehensive, free assistance in setting up their own businesses. The volunteers on the Governing Board believe that EmprendEX is “a great business opportunity for people who, despite being in an emergency situation, feel they can become entrepreneurs, have a business idea, or are looking for one.”
María Eugenia Girón is a member of the EmprendEX Governing Board, as well as CEO of MegaAdvise and Executive Director of the Premium Market Observatory at IE Business School. Her professional career has been linked to the premium brands sector. She has been part of the EmprendEX Governing Board since its beginnings, together with Javier Benavente (President of the Alares Foundation), Juan José Güemes (Head of Entrepreneurship at IE Business School), Mercedes Pescador (Managing Director of Medialuna and Chair of this Governing Board), Eduardo Bravo (CEO of Tigenix), David Hatchwell (President of Excem), Bruno Bobone (President of Pinto Basto), Juan Riva (CEO of the Nantik Lum Foundation), and Mar Aguilera (Managing Director of the Alares Foundation).
They are the first Spanish businesspeople and senior executives to work voluntarily on the development of the program ‘EmprendEX, entrepreneurs overcoming exclusion.’ They all believe in the initiative as part of the “solution to the problem of unemployment and the despair of many unemployed people in Spain.”
The beneficiaries—all of them long-term unemployed—will be able to request support through this program. They will have access to microcredit without guarantees or guarantors, receive free, personalized training, and have strategic mentors for at least two years to guide them and help them learn from their experience; some of these mentors are members of the Governing Board.
