Madrileño Agustín González, a lover of adventure sports and dogs, is participating in the Pirena 2011 for the second consecutive year. His disability, acquired after a spinal cord injury in a car accident in 1985, has not prevented him from competing in this race, which he is passionate about.
Agustín is competing alongside Jorge Ruiz, a Cantabrian who admits that “the thrill of competition is offset by the experience of spending 15 days with a person with a disability and enjoying the Pyrenees.”
While Jorge, who is competing in his seventeenth race, serves as the driver, or musher, of a sled pulled by between 6 and 12 dogs, Agustín, who made his debut in 2010, serves as a counterweight and helps on the uphill sections with telescopic poles.
During the race, they will cover 313 km over 15 days, climbing to 2,500 meters and passing through red and black ski runs.
