These first three months of the year have brought good news for people with disabilities, as hiring among this group has increased by 12.74% compared with the same period in 2009.
This is according to the State Observatory on Disability, which reports that since the beginning of 2010, 8,670 contracts have been registered for people with disabilities—980 more than during the first months of 2009.
However, temporary contracts are growing the most, specifically by 60%, partly due to the somewhat unstable economic situation we are experiencing. Although companies are increasingly choosing to offer permanent contracts to workers with disabilities, so far this year 700 of these people have secured permanent employment contracts.
The figures also show that people between the ages of 25 and 44 are hired most often. In addition, men, accounting for 61.68% compared with 38.32% for women, obtain more permanent contracts.
As for the data provided by the autonomous communities, it is interesting to note that Catalonia is the region recording the highest number of permanent contracts for people with disabilities, specifically 19.37%, followed by Madrid (17.03%) and Andalusia (10.71%).
