Last Friday, Oviedo once again hosted the traditional Prince of Asturias Awards Gala. On this occasion, in addition to celebrating this year’s magnificent list of award winners, at Fundación Alares we would like to highlight the organization’s important initiative to make the 2012 ceremony even more accessible. Through a panel specially created for the event by Vía Libre, people with disabilities were able to follow the Gala’s live broadcast.
For the occasion, Vía Libre designed a two-dimensional tactile floor plan of the ground floor and a directory of the facilities at Oviedo’s Hotel Reconquista, displayed on a lectern at a height accessible to a wheelchair user or a person of short stature. In addition, people with visual disabilities could read it comfortably and navigate the panel through touch, color contrasts, and textures.
Thanks to this initiative, people with disabilities also took center stage at the 31st edition of the Prince of Asturias Awards Gala.
