There had long been rumors that the Community of Madrid might introduce special prices for the Transport Pass for large families (general and special categories) and people with disabilities; as of October 20, this rumor has become a reality. They will come into effect next November.
Three new types of Transport Passes can be purchased as usual at tobacconists throughout the region. The green card will identify general-category large families, the purple card will identify special-category large families, and the blue pass is reserved for people with disabilities.
In the case of
,
general-category large families with between 3 and 4 children,
the discount is 20% for any family member (regardless of whether the pass is for youth, adults, or seniors), and
50% for special-category large families, that is, those with 5 or more children.
As for the
pass for people with disabilities, it will apply to those who can demonstrate
a disability level of 65% or higher. The measure was proposed at the initiative of the Transport Consortium itself, on the grounds that these people “have greater difficulty accessing the labor market and whose living costs are often higher, precisely because of their special circumstances.”
The 
discount in these cases is also 20%, regardless of the age at which the benefit applies.
If a user meets both conditions—that is, they have a disability and belong to a large family—they must contact the Regional Transport Consortium.
At the
Alares Foundation, we want to support these types of initiatives, which make assistance available to people whose different circumstances make everyday life and maintaining an ordinary household more costly. Since they have to bear additional or higher costs, at least it should be less expensive for them to cover what are already considered basic necessities, such as urban transportation in this case.
