Of the 102 companies that have renewed their commitment, a representative sample of 18 companies did so at the public signing ceremony held as part of the event “Commitment to Innovation through Diversity Management,” organized by Fundación Diversidad.
Amadeus, Empathia, SAINT GOBAIN PLACO IBERICA, and JTI are the four new companies that have signed the Diversity Charter, bringing the total number of companies that have signed it to nearly 700.
The European Commission’s headquarters hosted yesterday’s event, “Commitment to Innovation through Diversity Management,” organized by Fundación Diversidad. In addition to various presentations by leading experts, four new companies signed the Diversity Charter, and 18 companies—representing the 102 that renewed their commitment during 2015—also did so at the event.
Mr. Juergen Foecking, Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Spain, opened the event. Next, Mr. Jorge Cagigas, founding partner of Epicteles, explained how companies, which are undergoing continuous transformation, need to plan strategies focused on talent management. “To remain competitive, flexibility and adaptability are the key skills,” he noted.
Analyzing how generational diversity is a source of value at the corporate level was the responsibility of Mr. Enrique Arce, Director of Work-Life Balance and Diversity at Compensa Capital Humano. “Generational diversity is a diversity of values.” A person may interact with up to five generations in their workplace, hence the need to manage diverse teams whose members complement one another, he added.
“The Diversity Management Index,” presented by Mar Aguilera, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, is the method used to validate the renewal of the Diversity Charter by 102 companies. It has enabled an analysis of their practices, which, among other findings, shows that 32% of companies required to comply with the 2% quota for hiring people with disabilities do so through direct recruitment. Other positive findings include the fact that seven out of ten companies evaluate their diversity policies.
Likewise, according to this sample, 89% of the companies analyzed have flexible working policies, and 71% of the companies analyzed promote shared responsibility.
The event was also attended by Ms. Esther Jiménez, manager of the ICWF at IESE Business School, who highlighted how diversity is good for business and that companies with more women on their boards achieve better results. Mr. Santos Félix Farreras, an official of the Government of Catalonia and former vice president and former member of the National LGBT Council, explained to attendees that the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community should benefit from policies that support their situation and help normalize everyday circumstances such as marriages, maternity/paternity leave…
Ms. Maria Eugenia Girón Dávila, President of Fundación para la Diversidad, delivered the closing remarks.
