Yesterday, CERMI presented a preview of a study revealing that, of the 163,650 young people with disabilities between the ages of 15 and 30 living in Spain, only 29% are employed.
This report, entitled “Young People with Disabilities in Spain,” shows that the unemployment rate among young people with disabilities is almost twice that of young people without disabilities, of whom 56.8% are employed.
In addition, according to CERMI, the jobs these young people with disabilities obtain tend to be low-skilled and poorly paid, partly because, as this study also shows, the proportion of young people with disabilities who have completed advanced vocational or university studies is low (6% compared with 16.2%). The study also shows that women generally have lower educational levels than men.
Other important findings in the report reflect the discrimination these young people experience in educational settings. For example, 40% of young people with disabilities say they have felt discriminated against in their educational environment during the past 12 months.
