Equality continues to place us among the countries at the bottom of the rankings. This time, the data from the gender equality index compiled annually by the World Economic Forum (WEF) have been devastating. We have fallen 14 places, and our score is certainly nothing to be proud of. The current economic crisis and job insecurity have deepened inequalities, and among women, this has been far more pronounced.
According to the “Global Gender Gap Report 2012,” which includes data from 135 countries (93% of the world’s population), Spain’s fall in the rankings is due to the decrease in the number of women in ministerial leadership positions.
That is why, from this blog, we want to highlight the need to work together toward a more accommodating society, where people can combine work and family life. In this way, equality can become a reality because it will no longer have to compete with availability for work.
